Quick answers
Many questions are already answered in the BlueDose FAQ: price, accounts, supported chemicals, hot tubs, TFP and industry ranges, metric units, accuracy and where your data is stored. For water problems such as cloudy or green water, foam or scale, open More > Troubleshooting guides in the app: there are 14 step-by-step guides.
Back up and restore your data
BlueDose keeps everything on your phone, so it’s worth keeping a backup before you change or reset your phone.
Make a backup
- Open More and go to Backup.
- Tap Share a backup. BlueDose creates one JSON file with all your pools, hot tubs and tests.
- Save it somewhere you trust, for example your cloud drive, or email it to yourself.
Restore a backup
- Install BlueDose on the new phone and open the backup file you saved, in any app that shows text (Files, Drive, your email).
- Select and copy all of the file’s text.
- In BlueDose, open More and tap Restore from a backup.
- Paste the text and tap Restore. This replaces everything currently in the app.
Automatic Android backup
Android also includes BlueDose in your phone’s system backup if device backup is turned on (often Settings > Google > Backup). When you set up a new phone from that backup, your BlueDose data comes with it. This backup lives in your own Google account; we can’t see it.
Export to a spreadsheet
In Log, tap Export CSV to get your test history as a CSV file for Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets. A CSV is for reading, not for restoring: use a backup file for that.
Report a bug
Email [email protected] with the subject “BlueDose bug report”. The more of this you include, the faster we can fix it:
- What happened, and what you expected instead. For a dose that looks wrong, say what amount you expected and where that number came from.
- Steps to reproduce: which screen you were on and what you tapped.
- Your test values (FC, CC, pH, TA, CH, CYA, salt, borates, temperature or bromine) and the product BlueDose suggested or you picked.
- Pool or hot tub settings: volume, US or metric units, surface, sanitizer, and TFP, industry or custom ranges.
- A screenshot or screen recording, if you can.
- Phone model and Android version (Settings > About phone), and the BlueDose version (More > About BlueDose).
- App language, if the problem is a translation or a wrong unit.
BlueDose has no crash reporting of its own, so your email is the best way for us to find out about a problem. Please don’t send passwords or other personal details; we never need them. We use what you send only to reply and to fix BlueDose, as described in the privacy policy.
Reminders not showing up?
- Check that notifications are allowed for BlueDose in Android settings (on Android 13 and later, Android asks before an app can show notifications).
- Some phones pause apps to save battery. If reminders arrive late or not at all, set BlueDose’s battery usage to unrestricted in Android settings.
- Reminders are restored automatically after your phone restarts.
A note on safety
Doses are estimates for the volume and product strengths you enter. Always follow the product label, add one chemical at a time, and retest. Never mix chlorine and acid. For anything beyond routine care, ask a licensed pool professional.
