The short version

1. About this policy

This policy covers the Android app "Remote for Roku TV" (package com.swiftsofts.rokuremote), including its optional Remote Pro purchase. It explains what the app does with information, who receives it, and what you can choose. If we change how the app works, we will update this page.

2. What stays on your phone and your home network

2.1 Saved on your phone. The app saves the TVs you connected to (name and IP address), the channel list it read from your TV, your favorite channels, your settings (language, vibration, key colors, volume buttons), the history and open tabs of the in-app browser, the IPTV links you entered, whether Remote Pro is active, and small counters that decide when to show an ad or ask you to rate the app. We do not receive any of this. You can remove it by clearing the app's storage or uninstalling the app.

2.2 Talking to your TV. When you press a key, type text, or open a channel, the app sends the command to your Roku over your home Wi-Fi. This includes text you type with the phone keyboard, which can include passwords. The app finds your TV by sending discovery messages on your Wi-Fi and by connecting to the TV's address. None of this goes through our servers.

2.3 Casting your own photos, videos and music. When you cast, the app runs a small web server on your phone. Your TV downloads the files you picked from it over your Wi-Fi, using a long random address for each item. Only devices on the same network can reach it, and on your home network the transfer is not encrypted. Nothing is uploaded to us. The app does not ask for access to your whole photo or music library: Android's picker gives the app only the items you choose.

2.4 Web videos and IPTV. If you cast a web video or an IPTV stream, the app can relay it to the TV through your phone. The website or provider you chose sees the request from your phone, as with any browser or player. The app does not provide channels or playlists; you supply your own link or playlist.

2.5 Private Listening. The TV sends its sound to your phone over Wi-Fi and the phone plays it on your headphones. The app does not use the microphone, and it does not record or store the sound. While it plays, the app shows a notification (with a Stop button) so Android keeps it running. Ads are muted during Private Listening.

3. Information that leaves your phone

3.1 Ads in the free version: Google AdMob (Google Mobile Ads SDK). The free version of the app shows banner, native and full-screen ads from Google AdMob. Remote Pro removes them (see 3.8). When Remote Pro is active, the app does not request or show ads, and when it starts it does not start Google's ad library or show the ad consent form. In the free version, Google receives, directly from the app and over encrypted connections: your IP address (which Google may use to estimate your general location), your Android advertising ID and app set ID, how you interact with the app and ads (app launches, taps, video views), and diagnostic information about the app and the ads library (launch time, hangs, energy use). Google uses it to show and measure ads and to prevent fraud. We do not see this data about you individually; we receive reports in aggregate.

3.2 Your consent choice: Google User Messaging Platform. In the UK, the EEA and Switzerland (and in any other region where we turn it on), Google's consent form appears before the app asks for ads. Your choice is kept on your phone, and the library contacts Google to load the form and to apply your choice. If you do not agree, the app does not request ads. You can change your choice later in More > Ad Privacy Settings, which appears wherever the form applies. Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics (3.3, 3.4) are not switched off by this form, or by Remote Pro.

3.3 App use statistics: Google Analytics for Firebase. Firebase Analytics counts things like installs, app opens and sessions, and the phone model, Android version, app version, language and country. It uses an identifier for the app installation and may use your Android advertising ID. The app does not send events about what you do with your TV, and it does not send your name, email or any file or TV content.

3.4 Crash reports: Firebase Crashlytics. When the app crashes or hits an unexpected error, a report is sent to Google: the error trace, the state of the app, the phone model and Android version, the app version, your language, and an installation identifier. The report can include short technical notes such as which feature was running (for example "casting 3 items" or "Private Listening receiver error"). It does not include the content of your files. We also attach the model of the Roku you were connected to (not its name or network address), so we can fix problems that affect a particular model.

3.5 Our settings file: GitHub. When the app starts, it downloads a small public settings file from GitHub over HTTPS. It contains switches and numbers (for example, whether ads are on, how often full-screen ads may appear, and notices). GitHub receives your IP address and the standard information every app or browser sends with a request. The app sends no identifier of its own.

3.6 Google Play. You install and update the app through Google Play. If the app asks you to rate it, the rating card is shown and handled by Google Play: the rating and review you write go to Google Play, not to us. You can delete a review in your Play or Google account.

3.7 Websites you open. The in-app browser starts at google.com and can open any site you type or search for. Those sites (and Google, if you search) receive your request and may set cookies, as in any browser. We do not receive your browsing. The history and tabs stay on your phone.

3.8 Remote Pro: Google Play (Google Play Billing). Remote Pro is an optional purchase that removes the ads. It is sold through Google Play, either as a subscription (weekly, monthly or yearly, renewing automatically until you cancel) or as a one-time lifetime purchase. The app and Google Play show the price in your currency, the billing period and any free trial before you pay. The app works without Remote Pro.

Who handles your payment. Google does. Your card or other payment details, billing address, tax details and receipts are collected and kept by Google under Google's own terms and privacy policy. They never pass through the app, and we never see them.

What the app learns. The app asks Google Play, on your phone, which Remote Pro purchase your Google account owns. Google Play answers with the purchase status: which product, whether it is active, the order number and a purchase token. The app uses it only to switch Remote Pro on or off, and keeps a yes/no flag on your phone. The app does not send it to us or to anyone else. If you reinstall the app or move to a new phone with the same Google account, the app asks Google Play again and switches Remote Pro back on.

What we know. We have no account system and no server for purchases, so the app cannot tell us who bought Remote Pro. Google gives us sales and order records in the Google Play Console (for example order number, product, price, country and date). We use them for accounting, support and refunds.

Cancelling and managing. A subscription renews until you cancel it. To manage or cancel it, open the Google Play app, tap your profile picture, choose Payments and subscriptions, then Subscriptions, choose Remote Pro and tap Cancel subscription. You can also open https://play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions. After you cancel, you keep Remote Pro until the end of the period you already paid for. Uninstalling the app does not cancel a subscription. The lifetime purchase is paid once, does not renew, and has nothing to cancel.

Free trial. If a free trial is offered (to new customers only), you can cancel at any time during the trial and you will not be charged. If you do not cancel, Google Play charges the price shown when the trial ends.

Refunds. Refunds follow the Google Play refund policy (https://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/2479637). In the first 48 hours after a purchase you can ask Google Play for a refund. After that, write to [email protected] with your order number and we will review your request. If you live in the EEA or the UK, your legal rights are not affected.

Google's Terms of Service for Google Play (https://play.google.com/about/play-terms/) and Google's Privacy Policy apply to the purchase itself.

5. Your choices about ads and data

5.1 Consent form. Where it applies (UK, EEA, Switzerland), answer it when it appears, and change it any time in More > Ad Privacy Settings.

5.2 Advertising ID. On Android you can delete your advertising ID or turn off personalized ads: Settings > Privacy > Ads (on some phones Settings > Google > Ads). If you delete it, apps receive a blank ID. You can also manage Google's ad settings at https://myadcenter.google.com.

5.3 General location. The app has no location permission. Google may estimate your general location from your IP address when it shows an ad; using a different network or a VPN changes that estimate.

5.4 Analytics and crash reports. There is no switch in the app today, and Remote Pro does not turn them off. Uninstalling the app stops them.

5.5 US state privacy laws. We do not sell your personal information for money. Under some US state laws, using an advertising ID for personalized ads counts as "sharing" for cross-context behavioral advertising. You can opt out with the controls above and, where Google's US states message is shown, in More > Ad Privacy Settings. We do not build profiles of you ourselves and we do not collect sensitive personal information.

5.6 Permissions the app asks for. Internet, network and Wi-Fi state, and multicast: to reach and find your TV. Notifications, foreground service and wake lock: so Private Listening keeps playing with the screen off and shows its Stop button. Vibration: haptic feedback. Infrared: sending infrared commands on phones that have an emitter. Billing: lets the app talk to Google Play about Remote Pro purchases. Advertising ID, ad services attribution, basic phone state and Play install referrer: used by Google's ads and Firebase libraries for the purposes in section 3. The app does not ask for location, contacts, camera, microphone, storage or media-library, SMS or phone-number access.

6. How long we keep data

On your phone: until you clear the app's storage or uninstall. Firebase Crashlytics keeps crash reports and their identifiers for 90 days. Firebase Analytics keeps event data for 2 months, the retention period we set. Data held by Google for ads follows Google's own retention; see Google's privacy policy. We keep no purchase database of our own; Google keeps order and payment records under its own policies.

7. Security

Data sent to Google and GitHub is sent over encrypted connections (TLS or HTTPS). Remote Pro purchases are processed by Google Play on Google's own systems. On your home network, the app talks to your TV with the protocols the TV uses, and casting uses an unencrypted local connection with random addresses. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure.

8. Deleting your data and your rights

8.1 We hold no account, name or email for you. We cannot look you up by name. The data above is tied to an installation identifier, not to you.

8.2 To remove data tied to your installation: clear the app's storage or uninstall (a new identifier is created if you reinstall), reset or delete your advertising ID (section 5.2), and the remaining records expire by themselves in the periods in section 6.

8.3 To ask us to delete data, email support@swiftsofts.com with the subject "Delete my data". If we can find data about your installation, we will delete it. Because it is not linked to your name or email, we may ask for technical details such as your phone model and approximate install date, and we may not be able to find it; it still expires as in section 6. We cannot delete data that Google holds for its own purposes, such as ad data and your Google Play purchase and payment records; use https://myadcenter.google.com, your Google Account and Google's privacy policy for that.

8.4 If you live in the UK or the EEA, you can ask for access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, and you can object to processing and withdraw consent, at any time. You can also complain to your data protection authority. Where the law needs a legal basis: we rely on your consent for ads personalization and for reading or storing identifiers on your device where required, and on our legitimate interests for crash reports, basic statistics, fraud prevention and keeping the app working. To use these rights, email [email protected].

9. Children

The app is not directed to children under 13 (under 16 where local law sets that age), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you think a child has given us information, write to [email protected] and we will help.

10. Where data is processed

Google and GitHub may process data in the United States and other countries where they operate. They apply their own safeguards for transfers; see their policies below.

11. Backups

If you use Android's backup, Android may back up the app's local data (your saved TVs, favorites and settings) to your Google account. We do not receive it.

12. Links to other sites and services

The in-app browser, IPTV links and the Roku Channel Store open services we do not run. Their privacy practices are theirs. Related policies:

13. Independent app

This app is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Roku, Inc. Roku® and Roku TV™ are trademarks of Roku, Inc., used here only to describe compatibility. The app is provided "as is". Remote Pro is sold through Google Play, and Google Play's terms apply to the purchase. You are responsible for the content you cast and for having the right to use it.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the app or the law changes. The effective date at the top shows the latest version. If a change is important, the app's release notes will say so.
