The short version

1. About this policy

This policy covers the Android app "Remote for LG TVs" (package com.swiftsofts.tvremotelg), including its optional Remote Pro purchase. It explains what the app does with information, who receives it, and what you can choose. The app's "Privacy Policy & Terms" and "Terms of use" links open this page. If we change how the app works, we will update this page.

2. What stays on your phone and your home network

2.1 Saved on your phone. The app saves the LG TVs you connected to (name, model and IP address, the pairing key your TV issued, and the security certificate your TV presented), the address of the last TV you used (for Auto Connect), your settings (remote style, sound and vibration, status bar, Auto Connect, and the shortcuts for the phone's volume buttons and for shaking the phone), whether Remote Pro is active, the ad settings from our settings file (section 3.5), your ad consent choice (section 3.2), and small counters and times that decide when to show a full-screen ad or ask you to rate the app. We do not receive any of this. You can remove it by clearing the app's storage or uninstalling the app.

2.2 Finding, pairing and controlling your TV. The app finds LG TVs by sending discovery messages (SSDP) on your Wi-Fi. The first time you connect, your TV asks you to allow the connection (some TVs show a PIN that you type into the app). The TV then issues a pairing key, which the app saves on your phone and presents on later connections, so you do not have to allow it again. If Auto Connect is on, the app reconnects to the last TV you used when it finds it on your Wi-Fi. Commands go straight to the TV over an encrypted WebSocket connection (TLS) on your home network: remote keys, volume, inputs, app launches, mouse pointer movements, and the text you type in Send Text to TV, which can include passwords. To show your TV's apps and inputs, the app reads the list of apps installed on the TV, their icons and the TV's inputs from the TV. When it connects, the app tells the TV, as part of LG's connection handshake, your phone's model, Android version and screen size, the app's name, and the country of your phone's language setting. None of this goes through our servers.

2.3 Casting your own photos and videos. You pick one photo or video at a time with Android's photo picker, which gives the app only the item you choose. The app does not ask for access to your photo or music library. To play the item, the app runs a small web server on your phone and gives your TV its address. Your TV then plays the item from your phone over your Wi-Fi. Nothing is uploaded to us or to anyone else.

2.4 Other features. Help and Guide is a page built into the app. If you choose a shake shortcut, the app uses the phone's motion sensor to notice when you shake the phone; the readings are not stored or sent.

3. Information that leaves your phone

3.1 Ads in the free version: Google AdMob (Google Mobile Ads SDK). The free version of the app shows a native or banner ad on the main remote screen, a collapsible banner at the bottom of the TV list, and, after you have sent a number of commands to your TV, a full-screen ad. Remote Pro removes them (see 3.7). When Remote Pro is active, the app does not request or show ads, and when it starts it does not start Google's ad library or show the ad consent form. Right after a reinstall, or on a new phone, the app treats you as a free user until Google Play confirms your purchase, so ads can start loading in that short moment. In the free version, Google receives, directly from the app and over encrypted connections: your IP address (which Google may use to estimate your general location), your Android advertising ID and app set ID, how you interact with the app and ads (app launches, taps, video views), and diagnostic information about the app and the ads library (launch time, hangs, energy use). Google uses it to show and measure ads and to prevent fraud. We do not see this data about you individually; we receive reports in aggregate.

3.2 Your consent choice: Google User Messaging Platform. In the UK, the EEA and Switzerland (and in any other region where we turn it on), Google's consent form appears before the app asks for ads. Each time the app starts with ads on, the library contacts Google to check whether the form is needed, to load it and to apply your choice. Your choice is kept on your phone. If you decline, Google limits the ads it serves to what your choice allows (for example, no personalized ads). You can change your choice later in the side menu, under Privacy > Ad Privacy Settings. That row appears when the form applies to you and the free version's ads are on. Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics (3.3, 3.4) are not switched off by this form, or by Remote Pro.

3.3 App use statistics: Google Analytics for Firebase. Firebase Analytics counts things like installs, app opens, sessions and the screens of the app you open, and the phone model, Android version, app version, language and country. It uses an identifier for the app installation and may use your Android advertising ID. The app also records three events about the Remote Pro screen: when it opens, when you start a purchase, and when a purchase completes, with the plan you picked (for example "yearly"). Firebase may also record completed Google Play purchases on its own (product, price and currency). None of these events contain payment details. The app does not send events about what you do with your TV, and it does not send your name, email or any file or TV content.

3.4 Crash reports: Firebase Crashlytics. When the app crashes or hits an unexpected error (for example, an error while Mouse Control connects to your TV), a report is sent to Google: the error trace, the state of the app, the phone model and Android version, the app version, your language, and an installation identifier. The report may also say whether Remote Pro is active (yes or no) and may include the most recent Analytics events from 3.3. It does not include the content of your files or the text you type. We do not attach your TV's name or model, but an error message can sometimes contain a local network address, such as your TV's.

3.5 Our settings file: GitHub. When the app starts, it downloads a small public settings file from GitHub (gist.githubusercontent.com) over HTTPS. It contains ad switches and numbers: whether each kind of ad is on, how many TV commands come before a full-screen ad, which kind of ad the main screen shows, and a list of words used to hide unwanted ads. GitHub receives your IP address and the standard information every app or browser sends with a request. The app sends no identifier of its own.

3.6 Google Play. You install and update the app through Google Play. After your TV has confirmed a number of your commands, the app may ask Google Play to show its rating card, no more than three times and at least three days apart. The rating card is shown and handled by Google Play: the rating and review you write go to Google Play, not to us. "Rate This App!" in the side menu opens the app's page in the Play Store. You can delete a review in your Play or Google account.

3.7 Remote Pro: Google Play (Google Play Billing). Remote Pro is an optional purchase that removes the ads; nothing else in the app is locked. It is sold through Google Play, either as a subscription (weekly, monthly or yearly, renewing automatically until you cancel) or as a one-time lifetime purchase. The yearly plan can start with a 3-day free trial for people who have never had the subscription; the app shows the trial only when Google Play offers it to your account. The app and Google Play show the price in your currency, the billing period and any free trial before you pay. The app works without Remote Pro.

Who handles your payment. Google does. Your card or other payment details, billing address, tax details and receipts are collected and kept by Google under Google's own terms and privacy policy. They never pass through the app, and we never see them.

What the app learns. The app asks Google Play, on your phone, which Remote Pro purchase your Google account owns. Google Play answers with the purchase status: which product, whether it is active, pending or on hold, the order number and a purchase token. The app uses it to switch Remote Pro on or off and to confirm a new purchase back to Google Play (an acknowledgement, which Google Play requires), and it keeps only a yes/no flag on your phone. The app does not send the order number or the purchase token to us or to anyone else. It does add whether Remote Pro is active (yes or no) to crash reports, and the plan you pick to the Analytics events in 3.3. If you pay with a method that takes time to clear, Remote Pro turns on when Google Play confirms the payment. If you reinstall the app or move to a new phone with the same Google account, the app asks Google Play again and switches Remote Pro back on; you can also tap Restore purchases on the Remote Pro screen.

What we know. We have no account system and no server for purchases, so the app cannot tell us who bought Remote Pro. Google gives us sales and order records in the Google Play Console (for example order number, product, price, country and date). We use them for accounting, support and refunds.

Cancelling and managing. A subscription renews until you cancel it. To manage or cancel it, open the Google Play app, tap your profile picture, choose Payments and subscriptions, then Subscriptions, choose Remote Pro and tap Cancel subscription. You can also open https://play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions, or tap Manage subscription on the Remote Pro screen (side menu > Remote Pro). After you cancel, you keep Remote Pro until the end of the period you already paid for. Uninstalling the app does not cancel a subscription. The lifetime purchase is paid once, does not renew, and has nothing to cancel.

Free trial. If you start the free trial, you can cancel at any time during the trial and you will not be charged. If you do not cancel, Google Play charges the yearly price shown when the trial ends.

Refunds. Refunds follow the Google Play refund policy (https://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/2479637). In the first 48 hours after a purchase you can ask Google Play for a refund. After that, write to [email protected] with your order number and we will review your request. If you live in the EEA or the UK, your legal rights are not affected.

Google's Terms of Service for Google Play (https://play.google.com/about/play-terms/) and Google's Privacy Policy apply to the purchase itself.

3.8 Emails you send us. Report a Problem in the side menu opens your own email app with a new message to [email protected]. The app fills in the subject ("Remote for LG (Android) --- Support") and a line asking for your TV and phone models and a description of the problem. The app adds nothing else, and nothing is sent until you send it from your email app. We receive what you write and your email address, and we use them only to answer you.

5. Your choices about ads and data

5.1 Consent form. Where it applies (UK, EEA, Switzerland), answer it when it appears, and change it any time in the side menu under Privacy > Ad Privacy Settings.

5.2 Advertising ID. On Android you can delete your advertising ID or turn off personalized ads: Settings > Privacy > Ads (on some phones Settings > Google > Ads). If you delete it, apps receive a blank ID. You can also manage Google's ad settings at https://myadcenter.google.com.

5.3 General location. The app has no location permission. Google may estimate your general location from your IP address when it shows an ad; using a different network or a VPN changes that estimate.

5.4 Analytics and crash reports. There is no switch in the app today, and Remote Pro does not turn them off. Uninstalling the app stops them.

5.5 US state privacy laws. We do not sell your personal information for money. Under some US state laws, using an advertising ID for personalized ads counts as "sharing" for cross-context behavioral advertising. You can opt out with the controls above and, where Google's US states message is shown, in the side menu under Privacy > Ad Privacy Settings. We do not build profiles of you ourselves and we do not collect sensitive personal information.

5.6 Permissions. Internet, network and Wi-Fi state, and Wi-Fi multicast: to find and reach your TV, to cast, and for ads, Firebase and the settings file. Vibration: haptic feedback on key presses (you can turn it off in the side menu under Sound and Vibration). Billing: lets the app talk to Google Play about Remote Pro purchases. Advertising ID, ad services attribution and ad ID, basic phone state and Play install referrer: used by Google's ads and Firebase libraries for the purposes in section 3. Wake lock: listed by the app and by Google's Firebase Analytics library; the app's own code does not use it (it keeps the screen on while it is open with a window setting that needs no permission). Foreground service: listed by libraries the app includes; the app does not start a foreground service. Infrared: listed, but this version does not use the phone's infrared emitter. Camera and microphone: listed by the LG TV connection library (Connect SDK) for LG screen-mirroring and remote-camera features that this app does not use; the app never asks you for them, so Android never grants them. Music and storage access (on Android 12 and older, storage): listed for an earlier music-casting screen; this version never asks for them, so Android does not grant them, and casting uses Android's photo picker instead. The app does not have location, contacts, SMS, phone-number or notification permissions.

6. How long we keep data

On your phone: until you clear the app's storage or uninstall. Firebase Crashlytics keeps crash reports and their identifiers for 90 days. Firebase Analytics keeps event data for 2 months, the retention period we set. Data held by Google for ads follows Google's own retention; see Google's privacy policy. We keep no purchase database of our own; Google keeps order and payment records under its own policies. Emails you send us stay in our support mailbox until we no longer need them to help you, or until you ask us to delete them.

7. Security

Data sent to Google and GitHub is sent over encrypted connections (TLS or HTTPS). Remote Pro purchases are processed by Google Play on Google's own systems. On your home network, the app controls your TV over an encrypted WebSocket connection (TLS). The discovery messages that find your TV are not encrypted and carry no personal information. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure.

8. Deleting your data and your rights

8.1 We hold no account, name or email for you, unless you email us. We cannot look you up by name. The data above is tied to an installation identifier, not to you.

8.2 To remove data tied to your installation: clear the app's storage or uninstall (this also deletes your saved TVs and their pairing keys, and a new identifier is created if you reinstall), reset or delete your advertising ID (section 5.2), and the remaining records expire by themselves in the periods in section 6.

8.3 To ask us to delete data, email [email protected] with the subject "Delete my data". If we can find data about your installation, we will delete it, along with any emails you sent us. Because the data is not linked to your name or email, we may ask for technical details such as your phone model and approximate install date, and we may not be able to find it; it still expires as in section 6. We cannot delete data that Google holds for its own purposes, such as ad data and your Google Play purchase and payment records; use https://myadcenter.google.com, your Google Account and Google's privacy policy for that.

8.4 If you live in the UK or the EEA, you can ask for access, correction, deletion, restriction and portability, and you can object to processing and withdraw consent, at any time. You can also complain to your data protection authority. Where the law needs a legal basis: we rely on your consent for ads personalization and for reading or storing identifiers on your device where required, and on our legitimate interests for crash reports, basic statistics, fraud prevention, answering your emails and keeping the app working. To use these rights, email [email protected].

9. Children

The app is not directed to children under 13 (under 16 where local law sets that age), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you think a child has given us information, write to [email protected] and we will help.

10. Where data is processed

Google and GitHub may process data in the United States and other countries where they operate. They apply their own safeguards for transfers; see their policies below.

11. Backups

If you use Android's backup, Android may back up the app's local data (your saved TVs with their pairing keys, your settings and the app's counters) to your Google account, and may copy it to a new phone. Whether Remote Pro is active is left out of backups and phone-to-phone transfers; on a new phone the app asks Google Play again. We do not receive any backup.

12. Links to other sites and services

"Rate This App!" opens Google Play, and "More Apps" and "Privacy Policy & Terms" open our website in your browser. Your LG TV and the apps on it are run by LG and other companies under their own privacy policies. Related policies:

13. Independent app

This app is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by LG Electronics Inc. LG and webOS are trademarks of LG Electronics Inc., used here only to describe compatibility. The app is provided "as is". Remote Pro is sold through Google Play, and Google Play's terms apply to the purchase. You are responsible for the content you cast and for having the right to use it.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the app or the law changes. The effective date at the top shows the latest version. If a change is important, the app's release notes will say so.
